The Municipal Council serves as the governing board of Provo City’s Redevelopment Agency. During my time on the Council, we have been actively working to revitalize our Downtown and Commercial Centers, as well as our core Neighborhoods.
Some of the projects you may be aware of in this effort are the Zion’s Bank Tower and Parking Garage, the Wells Fargo Building, and partnering with the County in some aspects the new Utah County Convention Center.
It is an exciting time for our Downtown right now. We have unprecedented construction with the recent completion of the Zion’s Bank Tower, the Convention Center and NuSkin’s significant expansion. Add in discussions for a Bus Rapid Transit Line to run along University Avenue, the arrival of FrontRunner, and a new Center Street freeway interchange and you can see that things are really coming together for Downtown in the next few years.
One of my major priorities is preparing our Downtown to be ready for the Convention Center Opening. It’s an emphasis that is shared by many including our Center Focus stakeholder’s committees, Downtown Alliance, fellow council members, and the Administration. Many new restaurants are opening and downtown Provo is quickly earning a reputation as a great place to dine.
The RDA has many tools including Facade Grants, Blade Sign incentives (that should be passed in our upcoming Council Meeting). We are also working on ways to fill store fronts and enhance the downtown experience.
The RDA also works on creating Community Development Project areas including a New Mountain Vista CDA. You can learn more about that here.
Another responsibility of the RDA is to administer CDBG funding.
You can learn more about the specific responsibilities of the RDA here.
